Another Book Update

Another Book Update

Here is another book update for all my favorite readers and historians out there. You are an inspiration to me to keep going. Yes, I have only gotten through half of the January 1930 newspapers but I have finally moved past the 1920s! Now for the depression years. It will be interesting to read through how Lake City coped during this decade just coming out of the 1920s and World War I. Not knowing that they will be in another World War by the next decade.

Speaking of depression years. The 1930 newspapers are missing two full years of newspapers. No one seems to know what happened to them and the custodians of the old ones state that all the paper newspapers were destroyed after they were sent to microfilm. I checked the catalog of microfilms to see if perhaps I could order those years but no luck so far. Anything great happening during the years of 1933 or 1937 we are just S.O.L. on research.

If you follow us on our social media pages you may have seen the update that a few people have tried to get in touch. I hope they will try again and email me sometime soon. We also had one lady on the Lake City Facebook group post some information that she collected as her mom worked at the Blanche. Cannot wait to see if she can locate any pictures from the inside. Sadly, some of my emails have been lost inside the SPAM folder as the spammers have been working overtime lately. Please Direct Message me on The Blanche A History Facebook page if you haven’t received a response to an email.

I’m not sure what to post on the Instagram page quite yet. I am open to helpful suggestions. I believe I have some online tools that I will be utilizing to create memes or just static posters. Any sayings or quotes you would like to see here would be helpful as well. Right now all I can come up with are references to the hotel being haunted and Al Capone Stayed Here. We will see where that leads. If you would like to get copies of some of the newspapers we have already read we do have them updated by year and month. They are very interesting to read and a cool look back at local historical events. AND they are inexpensive as well. After all, you are not paying for the newspapers you are paying for our time of creating downloading them, and cleaning them up in Acrobat Reader PDF format.
